EL OMS

Originally from Tijuana, El Oms, born Omar Baltazar Juárez, is known for his illustrations, paintings, murals, and animation work. He has animated music videos for bands such as The Arcs, El Michels Affair, Lee Fields and Hermanos Gutiérrez. He has created a wide range of works, from album covers to drum pads, for both Easy Eye Sound and Big Crown Records. His artwork for The Arcs, Electrophonic Chronic, was nominated for the 2024 Grammy Award for Best Recording Package. His life-size paintings have been exhibited in Los Angeles galleries and commissioned for both interior and exterior buildings. Publications such as Rolling Stone, Chiron Review, World Star Hip Hop, Voyage LA, Nonesuch Journal and The Future Happened have featured his work. He has also illustrated the children's book Yeti Season, written by Francine Prose. His signature and most sought-after pieces are the pen-and-ink drawings on vintage 45 and LP record covers.

Omar began drawing seriously at age 8. He was primarily inspired by lowrider magazines and the simple lines of comic books. After moving to Bakersfield in his late teens, he began working as a carpenter but continued drawing whenever he could. The explosion of social media in the early 2000s generated a wave of requests from around the world. Among them was a message from singer-songwriter Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys and The Arcs. He asked Juarez to create an animated video for The Arcs, "Put a Flower in Your Pocket." Although he knew nothing about animation, Omar agreed and set out to learn as quickly as he could. The resulting video has been viewed millions of times and has opened many doors for him. In 2025, Omar started creating his first animated feature, La Luna en mi Corazón, written by Anthony Lucero.
